FOUND DEAD
Emil Hernstadt Dies Very Suddenly
In his office, on the West, Side This Morning

At 11 a.m. Sidney Hernstadt, son of Emil Hernstadt, a prominent cotton broker and a member of the school commission, came into the office on the west side of the court plaza and found his father lying at full length on the floor under one of the cotton platforms.  Being young and horrified at the suspicion that his father was dead, young Hernstadt gave the alarm before doing anything else.
J.R. Cole whose place of business is under the cotton office responded at once and when he reached the prostrate man's side he at once discovered that he was dead.  Notwithstanding this fact he used every means of resuscitation at hand, but to no effect.  Emil Hernstadt was beyond the power of human assistance.
Dr. Bitting was summoned and, after a careful examination, pronounced life extinct.  A stretcher was procured from the undertaking establishment and the lifeless form of the father and husband taken home and turned over to the grief stricken relatives, to whom this death, on account of its unexpectedness, comes with double force.
As soon as the fact of the death became known Coroner Hinkie summoned a jury of

INQUEST
who after viewing the body and sending a physician to examine the remains as they lay on the stretcher, before their removal to the family residence, on Houston street, the jury adjourned until 1:30 p.m.
The testimony as adduced before the jury of inquest was only to the effect of the statements made above of the actions of J. R. Cole.  It seems that he was complaining of feeling bad about the chest yesterday and today, but no one thought of the sudden and fatal ending of the slightest.

THE VERDICT
of the jury after heard the evidence of Dr. Thompson and Mr. Cole was:  "We the jury appointed to look into the manner, cause, time and circumstances of the death of Emil Hernstadt, find that the deceased came to his death on Nov. 16, 1886, about 11 a.m., of causes to the jury unknown."

THE DECEASED
has been a citizen of Sherman for about fourteen years and came from Jefferson to this place.  He is a member in good standing of numerous societies in Sherman, all of whom will respect their dead brother's funeral tomorrow.  He was for a long time connected in the management of the Courier Chronicle, and was, at the time of his sudden and totally unexpected demise an efficient and valuable member of the city school board.  He leaves a wife and family to mourn the loss of a true husband and the kindest of fathers.  His remains will be carried away from the family residence to their last resting place tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.

BURIED
The remains of Emil Hernstadt were laid away in the city cemetery this afternoon, and were followed to their last resting place bay a number of friends and his sorrowing relatives. The several societies of which the deceased was a member were also present, together with the members of the school board and teachers in the public schools.  Sherman loses a good citizen, society a valuable monitor, his family a loving husband and father, and business circles one of its best members.
Peace to his ashes.
