SERVICES TODAY FOR JAMES DICKSON, FORMER GRAYSON COUNTY JUDGE

Sherman, Texas - James N. Dickson, a former Grayson County  judge who served as a civic and governmental leader for more than half a century, has died in a local nursing home.  He was 95.
A funeral service for Dickson, a lifelong Grayson County resident who died Saturday, are scheduled for Tuesday in Dannel Funeral Chapel.
In 1914 Dickson began a courthouse career that spanned more than 40 years, first as deputy in the county tax collector's office, then county tax assessor, county auditor and county judge.
He also was bookkeeper for the Southmayd Gin and the Fred Birge business.  He was employed by the State Board of County and District Road Bond Indebtedness in Austin.
Dickson was born in Luella and attended Summer Normal School held in Austin College for training teachers.  He later attended Metropolitan Business College in Dallas.
Her served as principal of Cannon school and superintendent of Tom Bean schools in Tom Green County.
He was past president of the North Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association and later secretary and president of the North and East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association.
His survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Hallett of Sherman, and a brother, Joe Dickson of Denison.
