A6 Graveside services for Gertrude Marie Talley, 90-year-old longtime Sherman homemaker, were held at 2 p.m. Friday in West Hill Cemetery. She died Wednesday at a local hospital. Rev. Robert Thompson of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiated. Waldo Funeral Home was incharge of arrangements. Nephews serveed as pallbearers. Mrs. Talley was born in Slocum, the daughter of Ben Newsom and Fannie Mae Murdock Newsom. On December 23, 1923, sher married M.E. Talley in Kerens and they moved to Sherman in 1928. She was a member of Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her son, Jerry Talley of Sherman; daughter, Eldene Waldo of Sherman; sister Floy Dell "Jackie" Akridge of San Marcos; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A8 Jerry Lealand Talley, 67-year-old retired president and chief executive officer of Grayson County State Bank, died Monday, September 25, 1995, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church. Officiating was Rev. Lander Bethel, pastor of the church, and Beter Horn of A.G. Edwards Company. Waldo Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Mr. Talley was born on September 1, 1928, in Kearns, Texas, the son of M.E. Talley and Gertrude Newsom Talley. He attended Sherman schools and was a 1945 graduate of Sherman High School. In 1948, he received a bachelor's degree from Arlington State College, now the University of Texas at Arlington. In 1960, he earned his master's degree from Southern Methodist University School of Banking. On July 17, 1950, he married Rita Pierce in Sherman. Talley had been a stock broker for A.G. Edwards for the past two years. In 1990, he retired from Grayson County State Bank after 31 years, having served as president and chief executive officer. He was formerly Sherman's Outstanding Young Man, was a member of the Sherman Rotary Club and the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award. He was also a member of Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church. In 1988, Talley was named "Outstanding Chamber Member of the Year" by Sherman's Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Industrial Committee and president of Sherman's Industrial District. He also served on the Grayson County Airport Board. From 1948 to 1950, he worked as a radio announcer for KGAF-AM in Gainesville and later served as program director at the station. He also worked at a Wichita Falls television station and a Gainesville retail business before taking a job as assistant vice president of Grayson Bank in 1856. Talley also served on the board of trustees for Austin College and the board of directors for Sherman Community Hospital, now Medical Plaza Hospital. He had also served on the boards of Sherman's Chamber of Commerce; Sherman United Fund, now Grayson County United Way; Boy Scouts of America; Camp Fire; and the Salvation Army. Surviving are his wife, Rita Talley of Sherman; daughters, Jerri Kay Marshall of Princeton and Jan Stewart of Sherman; father, M.E. Talley of Sherman; sister, Eldene Waldo of Sherman; and granddaughters, Jillian Catherine Stewart and Jordan Talley Stewart, both of Sherman. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
