West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Franklin Delano Smith 10 February 1934 - 26 April 2010 SP3 US Army Franklin Delano Smith of Sherman, Texas, loving husband, dad and grandfather, passed away Monday evening, April 26th at his residence. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Parkview Church of Christ. Eddie Pitchford, minister at Coahoma Church of Christ and nephew of Mr. Smith and Welton Stoker, minister at Parkview Church of Christ, officiated. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery; arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Frank was born on February 10, 1934 in Dickenson County, Virginia, son of Vernon R. and Mary Ann Hammonds Smith, Sr. He joined the Army in 1954 and was stationed at Walters Air Force Base in Mineral Wells, Texas; he service in Korea during the Korean War. He married Helen Nomalene PItchford on May 31, 1956 in Weatherford, Texas. He attended Hiwassee Junior College, Tennessee and Drakes Business School in Ft. Worth. Soon after he began employment as a salesman for Mrs. Bairds Bakers in Ft. Worth and later Wonder Bread when he moved the family to Sherman in 1976. Frank, nown as "Dee" to his Virginia family and "PaPa" to his grandchildren, enjoyed gardening, storytelling, good laughs and travel prior to his health problems. He was a member at Parkview Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen of Sherman; his son, Kenneth Smith, of Sherman; and his daughter, Janet Armstrong and her spouse, Keight, of Sherman; three grandchildren, Erin Dee Tooley and husband, Calvert, of Santa Monica, California; Will Armstrong of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Paige Armstrong of Sherman; two sisters, Mae Rasnick of Dante, Virginia and Judy Conti of Springfield, Missississppi; and one brother, James H. Smith of Forest, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Charles Ives, Marcus Stroup, Beryl Mackey, Wilburn Grisham, Hubert Baker and Jerry Perkins.
