Sunday, October 22, 1922 pg. 8 R.A. Speer Passes Away at Age of 74 - Funeral Monday R.A. Speer, a well-known Sherman resident for the past 15 years, passed away at his home at 1211 S. Crockett street. Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the age of 74 years. Mr. Speer had been in ill health for some time, and while his death was not entirely unexpected, it was, nevertheless, a shock to his many friends. Mr. Speer moved with his family to this city 15 years ago from West Texas, where he had engaged in ranching for a number of years. Disposing of his properties there, he brought his family here to obtain the educational facilities of Sherman. Mr. Speer was a native of New York and was born November 24, 1848. He removed to Texas in middle life and purchased large tracts of West Texas ranch land which afterwards enhanced largely in value. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Helen F. Speer; by 2 daughters, Miss Mary Speer of Baltimore, and Miss Alma Jane Speer of Sherman; a son, W.F. Speer, of Senora, California; and a sister, Miss Georgiana H. Speer of New York City. Funeral services will be held from the late home on South Crockett street Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. J.W. Miller, rector of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, will conduct the funeral services, after which interment will be made in West Hill cemetery.
