West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Alice T. Sprowl 8 May 1913 - 1 January 1994 Charlie C. Sprowl 23 August 1910 - 15 July 1980 Sherman - David Charles Sprowl was born August 12, 1940 in Sherman at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, son of Charlie C. and Alice Patterson Sprowl. David died with his family by his side on December 7, 2013 at the age of 73 at Texoma Medical Center from complications of cancer. After being raised in Sherman and attending Jefferson Elementary, David graduated from Sherman High School in 1958. He then attended Austin College, graduating in 1962. After graduation he served in the United States Air Force. When David's service in the Air Force ended, he began work at the Texas State Comptroller's Office. He and Frankie were married March 1, 1973. In May 1973 Samuel D. Wolfe told David of his vision of David coming to work for A.G. Edwards and Sons. Beginning as a broker with the firm, he had become vice president and then regional manager of the Southwest Region. He retired in May 2006. David served on the Sherman City Council and in 1983 was elected mayor for the city of Sherman, During David's term as Mayor, he was instrumental in securing Sherman's present water treatment system. Those efforts initiated construction of facilities necessary to bring surface water to Sherman and as a result, Sherman has never had to restrict water use to its citizens or industries. He also served on the Board of Directors of Austin College, American Bank, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ, and 2 terms on the Greater Texoma Utility Authority. He was a member of the Sherman Rotary Club, The Elks Club, and he was a Master Mason. David was a founding member of "The Sinner's Bible Study." Frankie and David were members of the Outrigger Canoe Club in Waikiki. David loved his family, he loved his job, retirement, and all of his friends. He loved Hawaii and all the time he spent there. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 40 years; his sister, Dr. Martha Payne and husband, Arthur, of Sherman; son, James Sprowl of Allen; daughter, Rebecca Water and husband, John, of Sherman; grandchildren, Nathan and Skyler Terflinger of Sherman; and Cami Sprowl of Fayetteville, Arkansas; 2 great-grandsons, Ryder and Rylan; cousins, Suzanne Morris of Plano; and Jerry Floyd of West Columbia. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 2013 at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Jim Pledger officiated. Burial was at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Pallbearers were Don Booth, Howard Brandon, Jerry Chapman, Jim Lindsey, Bruce Melton, and Robert Richardson. Honorary pallbearers were Paula Judkins, Kate Kelley, Dr. Jennifer Laing, Lois Powell, Natalie Tuttle, and Gail Utter. David was a big man with a big heart who lived a great life.
