Sherman - Rev. Melvin R. James, 82, passed away July 27, 2008 at Homestead of Sherman.  Dannel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, July 30, at First Assembly of God of Sherman with Rev. Terry Johnson of First Assembly of God officiating, assisted by R.G. Logan of House of Prayer in Gainesville.  Interment followed in West Hill Cemetery.
Melvin was born in Clyde on January 15, 1926, son of William and Delzie Shellnut James.  He attended schools in Dudley and graduated from Escota High School in Texas.  He then attended Berean Bible College in California.  During World War II, he was a U.S. Navy Seabee, serving in Guam.  He married Eva Dixon on March 10, 1946 in Clyde, and they enjoyed more than 62 years together.
After pastoring in Abilene for several years, Rev. and Mrs. James moved to Sherman in 1963, where he became minister of First Assembly of God.
Rev. James served as presbyter of the Denton Section Assemblies of God, 1965-1980 and executive presbyter of the North Texas Assemblies of God, 1976-1981.  He was assistant director of the Sunday School Department of the NTDAG, 1981-1984 and past president of the Chaplain's Association of Wilson N. Jones Hospital.  He served as a chaplain at WNJ for 10 years.
Melving was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Russell James; and 4 brothers, Oneal, Worley, Carter, and Theston James.
He is survived by his wife; 2 brothers, Coy James of Weed, Claifornia; and Randy James of Oregon; one sister, Eva Garrett of Mt. Shasta, California; and one daughter, Shirley Stevens and husband, Rick, of Sherman;....(remaining relatives and friends listed in Eva James' obituary)
Pallbearers were Steve Miller, David Dixon, Bo Farmer, Joe Farmer, Donnie Moody, and Scott Kilmer.  Honorary pallbearers were Richard Miller and Rev. Dalton Jaco.

Eva Mae James, 80, passed away October 9, 2008 at Wilson N. Jones Healthcare Center.  Dannel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, October 13 at First Assembly of God in Sherman with Rev. Terry Johnson of First Assembly of God officiating, assisted by Rev. Leonard Allgood of Plano Assembly of God and Rev. R.G. Logan of House of Prayer, Gainesville.  Interment followed in West Hill Cemetery.

Eva was born in Jones County on October 7, 1928, daughter of Roy and Thelma Beasley Dixon.  She attended schools in Abilene and married Melvin James on March 10, 1956 in Clyde.  She and Rev. James were partners in ministry and enjoyed more than 62 years of marriage before his death in July 2008.
After pastoring in Abilene for several years, Rev. and Mrs. James moved to Sherman in 1963, when he became minister of the First Assembly of God, then located at 711 E. Lamar.  In 1970 he began a building program at the present location, 121 W. Pelton.  Rev. and Mrs James and church members performed much of the work  They served there until his retirement in 1993, when their 30-year pastorate was feted by the church.  Mrs. James served as President of the Women's Missionary Council of the Denton Section Assemblies of God, 1965-1980.  
Mrs. James was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one son, Russell James.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Stevens and husband, Rick, of Sherman; 7 grandchildren, Cynthia Jones and husband, Johnny, of Pottsboro; Jeremy James and wife, Boni, of Pottsboro; Amy Smith of Sherman; Jason Lucas of Sherman; Melissa Stevens of Sherman; Chris and Nathan James of Russelville, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Seth, Hunter, Tyler, Pyper, Kaitlin, Austin and Karragin.  Others include a brother, Roy Dixon and wife, Kay, of Roanoke, Texas; sisters, Joyce Levrets and husband, Monroe, of Abilene, Texas; Loyce Lloyd and husband, Don, of Harrison, Arkansas; and Peggy Allred and husband, Jimmy, of Abilene, Texas; special family friend, Anna Lowry, of Sherman; and a host of church family members and friends.
Pallbearers were Steve Miller, David Dixon, Bo Farmer, Joe Farmer, Donnie Moody, and Gary Preston.  Honorary pallbearers were Richard Miller and Rev. Dalton Jaco.
