G. C. GURLEY, PARK SUPT. DIES HERE
Glenn C. Gurley 43, park supertendent for the city of Sherman, for
several years, died at St. Vincent's Hospital Saturday at 4 a.m. following
a heart attack. He lived at 808 East Thomas. Mr. Gurley was a World War
II veteran and a native of Grayson County.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Waldo Funeral
Chapel. The Rev. M. T. Adkins of Dallas, will conduct.
Pallbearers will be Roscoe Russell, Jimmie Long, Charles Osborne,
Jim Stephenson, Robert Brooks and Duard Smithson. Burial will be in West
Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Gurley was born February 1, 1907 a son of J. S. Gurley and the
late Mrs. J. S. Gurley. On January 17, 1942, he was married to Thelma Gwyn
at Sherman. He was superintendent of parks for the city at the time of
his death.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Gurley served with the Fifth Air
Force in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars and the American Legion and the Howe Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife and father; two sons, Glenn C. Gurley,
Jr., and John Mark Gurley; four brothers, James R. Gurley and Robert Gurley,
both of Sherman, Chester Gurley of California and Loy Gurley of Wichita
Falls; two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Hammett of Orange and Mrs. Johnny Holmes
of Sherman.

Chapel for Robert A. Gurley 49, of 1701 E. Wells Ave. who was found dead
in his car on old Dorchester Road Tuesday. Dr. John M. Hardy, Grayson County
physician who examined the body, said death was caused by a heart attack.
The Rev. Lloyd Ledbetter, pastor of the Central Baptist Church,
will conduct the services. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be; J. A. Vickers, A. D. Gray, Jr.,W. K. McGill, Marvin McGill, Everett
Southerland, and M. R. Ward.
Mr. Gurley was born November 15, 1910, in Gunter, son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Gurley. He married Miss Bernice Blankenship in August
1950. He was employed by a Sherman grocery for the past two years. He was
a veteran of World War II, serving three years in the Southwest Pacific.
He was a member of the Howe Methodist Church.
Mr. Gurley is survived by his wife; a step-mother, Mrs. J. S. Gurley
of Howe; three brothers, Russell Gurley of Sherman, Jack Gurley of Los
Angeles, California; and Lloyd Gurley of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Mrs.
W. H. Hammett of Orange and Mrs. Johnny W. Holmes of Sherman; and a number
of neices and nephews.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

CHESTER A. GURLEY Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic
Church for Chester A. Gurley, 76, a former Sherman resident died Thursday
in Hollywood, California. Rev. Michael T. Flanagan will be celebrant and
burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under
the direction of Dannel-Horton-Barrett Funeral Home.
Born in Gunter, Texas he was the son of James S. Gurley and Betty
Green Gurley. He attended the Howe Public Schools and was a veteran of
World War II, having served in the Army. He had lived in the Los Angles
area for 26 years and was a retired nurse.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gurley of Hollywood, California;
two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Holmes of Sherman and Mrs. Bill Hammett of Orange,
Texas, and a brother, Lloyd Gurley of Sherman.
The body will arrive in Sherman Monday afternoon.
