McDonald 1895 - 1965 The Howe Enterprise Thursday, July 29, 1965 pg. 3 DORCHESTER PIONEER DIES Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Dorchester Baptist Church for Mrs. J.R. McDonald, 70, of Dorchester, Route 1, who died at 2:20 p.m. Friday in a Dallas hospital after a short illness. Rev. J.N. Sides, pastor, and Rev. Bob Layman, former pastor of the church, conducted the services. The deacons of the church acted as pallbearers. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sherman. Mrs. McDonald was born July 14th, 1895 in Dallas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pruitt. She married Mr. McDonald February 14, 1915 in Dorchester. After her husband's death, she operated their farm. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Maude Pruitt of Whitewright; a son, John S. McDonald of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. T.L. Taylor of Dorchester and Mrs. W.W. Westbrook of Bells; five sisters, Mrs. Ed McKee of Houston; Mrs. Gay Ford of Amarillo; Mrs. B.W. Newman of Whitewright; Mr. C.D. Rice of Garland; and Mrs. Mary J. Hunter of Dallas; two brothers, Oscar J. Pruitt of San Antonio and William Pruitt of Houston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
