West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas
The Galveston Daily News Saturday, November 4, 1876 pg. 2 STATE NEWS The Sherman Register is pained to announce the death of Mr. Sam Gault. He was sitting on a goods box in front of H.W. Williams & Co.'s drug store, talking to a friend about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, apparently as well as usual, when without a moment's warning he fell backwards insensible. He was taken into the drug store and physicians summoned at once. Every effort was made to restore him, and for a while hopes were entertained that he would revive. He was removed to his house late in the evening and died during the night. We learn that the doctors pronounce his disease rheumatism of the heart, or something of that nature. Mr. Gault was advances in years, perhaps sixty years of age, and was a highly respected citizen.
