Sherman - Bettye McElroy Sampsell, 81, died April 19, 2010, in Sherman. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. At Bettye's request, no service was held.
Bettye was born January 1, 1929, in Oklahoma, daughter of Jesse R. McElroy and Bess Lucas McElroy. She married Marion Herbert "Sammy" Sampsell April 18, 1948, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sherman where she was a member at the time.
Sammy preceded Bettye in death, as did her parents; sister, Myrna Banzer; and brother, Jess McElroy.
Actively involved in the community as a Realtor, Bettye had also been a loyal supporter of Austin College. She was passionate about the history of the Sherman-Denison area and loved books and reading.

Survivors include a son, Clyde Russell Sampsell; daughter, Marion Elizabeth Sampsell Aronson; granddaughter, Sara Aronson; sister-in-law, Carol McElroy and family; and other relatives residing in the nearby area.
Memorials may be made to Austin College or to the Red River Historical Museum of Sherman.
