Ft. Worth Star Telegram Wednesday, May 11, 1904 WAS MEMBER OF A NOTED TEXAS FAMILY Sherman, Texas, May 11 - The recent death of Mrs. Fannie Walker at Durant, I.T. and the funeral here, recalls her connection with one of the oldest families of the state and one that figures prominently in its history. She was the daughter of Rev. Summer Bacon, the first protestant missionary sent to Texas, coming to these, the far western wilds, from Tennessee early in the year 1835, and many were the dangers, hardships and privations experienced by the young missionary and his faithful wife, who was with him constantly up to the time of his death in 1843. His widow moved to Grayson County after his death and resided here until her death in 1879. Mrs. Walker was one of twin daughters, the other being Mrs. J.D. Thomas, who resides in East Sherman. The only son, Jonathan Bacon, as a traveling freight agent for the Texas and Pacific and resides at Denton. Mrs. Walker, who was the widow of the late Robert Walker, a veteran of the Confederacy and former district clerk of this county, is survived by only two children - a son, George Walker, a trainman on the Frisco running between this city and Monett, Missouri; and a daughter, Miss Jennie Walker, who resided with her mother at Durant, where they moved a few years ago.
