Shannon died 18 August 1875 Aged 1 Yr. 5 Ms. 27 Ds. s/o R.E. & M. Shannon December 24, 1928 Bob Shannon Passes Away First White Male Child Born in Sherman; Member Pioneer Family R.E. (Bob) Shannon, 84, the first white male child born in Sherman, died at his country home just north of Sherman Sunday following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Dannel-Scott Funeral Home, with the Rev. H.C. Hand, pastor of the Key Memorial Methodist Church, in charge of the services. Members and officers of Travis Lodge No. 177 A.F. & A.M. were in charge of the services at the grave in West Hill cemetery. Mr. Shannon's sister, the late Mrs. Julia A. King, was the first white child born in Sherman, while he was the first boy. His father, the late Colonel T.J. Shannon, gave part of the land on which Sherman is located, and was one of the largest land owners in Texas. He was the first man in Texas to bring thoroughbred cattle to this state, bringing a trio of Durham cattle to Grayson county that were a gift of Queen Victoria of England, who paid the freight on them to New Orleans. Colonel Shannon met the cattle there and brought them to Sherman in ox wagons. R.E. Shannon was a farmer and lived on land headrighted by his father just outside of the corporation north of Fairview addition. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Shannon, and four children, Mrs. Stella Bruce of Dallas, R.E. Shannon, Jr., and Miss Vida Shannon of Sherman, and Owen Shannon of Little Rock, Ark.
