Sherman Democrat June 7, 1976 Dr. Vernon L. Tuck, 70, a former Sherman Mayor and physician here for four decades, died Sunday in a Sherman hospital following an extended illness. Graveside services were held Tuesday in West Hill Cemetery; Rev. William Tate Young, rector emeritus of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Born October 28, 1905 in Sherman, Mr. Tuck was the son of Lon M. and Nannie Greene Tuck, descendants of a pioneer family who settled here prior to the Civil War. Members of his family had been involved in Sherman city government since 1894. He was a graduate of Sherman High School, the 1928 class of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston. He played quarterback on the Bucknell football team. He also attended Austin College. He served his residency at Philadelphia General Hospital and taught in the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. In 1935 he joined the Stout Clinic here, later known as the Medical Arts Clinic. He was a physician and surgeon here for 40 years and also served as Grayson county health officer. He retired in 1975, being honored with a dinner party at Woodlawn County Club, which he had been elected president of in 1940. Mr. Tuck was a former Mayor of Sherman and was the brother of the late H.G. Tuck, who also served as a Sherman Mayor. Mr. Tuck was a veteran of World War II, having received a decoration for his service as medical officer for the troops at Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion of Europe. He was married to Grace Burney on November 17, 1936 at Ardmore, Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Lon B. Tuck, an editor with The Washington Post, the Washington, D.C. newspaper; three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Foree, Jr. of Dallas, Mrs. Elizabeth Higginbotham of Sherman, and Mrs. W.J. Smith of Pampa; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. H.G. Tuck of Sherman. Memorials may be made to the building fund of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Wilson N. Jones Hospital fund, or the Grayson County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Sherman Democrat June 5, 1987 LON BURNEY TUCK Graveside services for Lon Burney Tuck of Washington, D.C., 49-year-old music critic for The Washington Post, who died Thursday at his residence, will be held Monday in West Hill Cemetery. Rev. James Garrard of St.Stephen's Episcopal Church and Rev. Raymond Judd, chaplain of Trinity University in San Antonio, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Surviving is his mother, Grace Burney, Tuck, of Sherman. Memorials may by made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital. Sherman Democrat December 10, 1993 Graveside services for Grace Burney Tuck, 85-year-old Sherman resident, will be held Saturday in West Hill Cemetery. She died Wednesday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital. Rev. James Gerrard of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church will officiate. Dannel Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Mrs. Tuck was born in Burneyville, Oklahoma, the daughter of Julian Gunter Burney and Beulah Greene Burney. She was a graduate of Ardmore High School, Ward-Belmont College and the University of Oklahoma. On November 17, 1936 she married Dr. Vernon Lee Tuck in Ardmore. A Sherman resident since 1936, she was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 401 S. Crockett, Sherman 75090.
