W.H. DeSpain Dies in Dallas Golf Pro, Former Chief of Sherman Police, Ill for 7 Months William
Henry DeSpain, 63, manager and professional of Oak Grove gold course
here for about 7 years and former chief of police at Sherman, died at
his home, 5704 Mercedes street, Sunday morning after an illness lasting
about 7 months. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the
chapel of Ed C. Smith & Brothers, with Dr. W. Marshall Craig,
pastor of the Gason Avenue Baptist Church and Dr. Carl Gregory, pastor
of the First Methodist Episcopal Churc, South, officiateing. The body
was taken overland to Sherman for burial. Mr. DeSpain, a native of Grayson county, had lived in Dallas for about 13 years. Surviving
are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Fred Wheelus and Miss Mildred DeSpain,
all of Dallas; and a son, Rex DeSpain of Birmingham.
