West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Sherman Daily Register Tuesday, December 29, 1885 Wednesday, December 30, 1885 DIED Julius Brenner, proprietor of the Merchants Restaurant, died this morning at 9 o'clock from congestion of the stomach, after an illness of several months. Mr. Brenner was one of the earliest restaurant men of the city and was formerly the proprietor of a marble yard on corner of Jones and Travis street. He left the city some few years since but returned again and opened up business on South Travis street, to shortly dispose of it and take charge of the Merchants Restaurant and saloon of which he was proprietor at the time of his death this morning. He was one of the familiar landmarks which stood in the city to carry the older citizen's mind back to the days when Sherman was but a trading post. He was well-known for his kindness and good humor, and the familiar stump of the cork leg, which many years ago took the place of the natural member, will be missed on the North side and the little school children, to whom Julius was wont to explain the different kinds of game hanging in front of the restaurant, will look for the kindly smiling face in vain. He will be buried in the morning. FUNERAL NOTICE The funeral of Julius Brenner, will take place from his room over the Merchants Restaurant, tomorrow at 10 o'clock. All friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. BURIED Julius Brenner, proprietor of the Merchants' restaurant and saloon was interred in the city cemetery this morning.
