Sherman, Texas - Funeral Services for Martha Neyman were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Sherman.  Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery.  Mrs. Neyman, 75, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center.
Martha was born July 1, 1942 at home in Plainview community, Grayson County, Texas to the late Kenneth and Mary Marguerite Whitfill Butts.  She married William Earl Neyman, Sr. on March 22, 1961 in Sherman.
Martha attended schools in Sadler, Gainesville and Sherman, graduating from Sherman High School in 1960.  She graduated from Grayson County College in 1991 with an Associated Degree in Business Administration.
During the years Martha traveled with her Air Force husband, she worked in their home while their children were young and then for the U.S. Civil Service returning to Sherman in 1976 and going to work in the Transportation Department of Oscar Mayer Foods Corp.  She remained with Oscar Mayer until the plant closure in 1998.  After a few months at home, she went to work for the Dillingham Intermediate School for two years, then transferred to the Administrative Building working as a Department Secretary for Instruction and Food Service.
Martha was a member of the Sherman Business and Professional Women's Club, serving as a past President and past District Director.  She served on several committees, both local, district, and state.  She worked with the Nike Club at Sherman High School, which is sponsored by Sherman B&PW.
This was such a highlight in her life - to watch these young women ready themselves to go out of high school, prepared to meet their self and their accomplishments.  She was an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 973, and a member of the Preston Trails Daughters of the American Revolution.  In 2007 Martha heard of the organization Soldiers' Angels and became a member where she adopted soldiers, as well as worked with Chaplains in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany as well as volunteering at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Medical Center for Soldiers Angels assisting veterans as well as working in the Voluntary Services Office.
Martha was also a member of Altrusa International, Inc. of Sherman and served in several capacities for this service organization.  She also worked as a volunteer with the Theatre Guild of Sherman Community Players and was a past President of this group.  Martha sat on the Grayson County Heart Association Board.  She was a past President of the Texoma Transportation Club, being the first woman to serve in this position.  She was a member of the Fountain Valley OES #155 of Fountain, Colorado.  Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years; son, William E. Neyman, Jr. of Leflore, Oklahoma; and daughter, Scharlyn R. Berner and husband, Eddie, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amber Braden and husband, Terry; Joshua Berner & Samantha; and Michelle Nix and husband, Jerod; 7 great-grandchildren.  Sisters, Marilyn Jones of Sarasota, Florida; Sharon Banks of Arlington, Texas; and Beverly Woodson and husband, Charles, of Frisco, Texas; and personally adopted brothers, David Smith; with numerous nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.


 
Bill was born June 17, 1939 in Bay, Arkansas, son of Hubert and Frances Lenore Hardin Neyman.  He married Martha Scharlyn Butts on March 22, 1961.  Bill attended schools in Memphis and Ripley, Tennessee and earned his Associates degree in Business Administration at Grayson County College.  He graduated from Grayson County College in 1991 and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a national junior college honor society.
Bill joined the Air Force on August 20, 1954 and retired on September 1, 1977.  He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served in the United States, Germany, Japan and Turkey, retiring after a year on Shemya Island, Aleutian Islands.  After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a warehouseman for CDT Industrial Supply until his medically forced retirement in June 2001.
Bill served as a videographer for the Sherman Community Players for many years providing not only the theater with a library of plays but also providing the Sherman Library with a copy of each play.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge with Wakkani Centennial #21,Wakkani, Japan at his home lodge, a member of Fountain Valley OES #155, Fountain, Colorado.  In 1997 Bill was made an honorary member of Sherman B&PW.  Bill also volunteered at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Texas for 13 years where he was awarded Volunteer of the Year in April 2018 with 2,891 volunteer hours.  He was a lifetime member of the Chapter 973 Vietnam Veterans of America, Sherman, Texas and a member of the First Baptist Church in Sherman.
Survivors include his son, William E. Neyman, Jr. of LeFlore, Oklahoma; daughter, Scharlyn R. Berner and husband, Eddie, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amber Braden and husband, Terry, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Joshua Berner and wife, Samantha, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and Michelle Nix and husband, Jerrod, of Waldron, Arkansas; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Powell of Neosho, Missouri; and Velma Lawther and husband, Chuck, of Ohio; sister-in-law, Barbara Brown of Panama City, Florida; 3 nephews and 5 nieces,
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha Butts Neymoan of 56 years; and 2 half-brothers.
Services were held Saturday afternoon, January 15, 2021, at First Baptist Church.  Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery.
