JAMES S. GURLEY DIES IN HOUSTON HOSPITAL
James S. Gurley, 76, of 215 E. Wilson died Thursday at 2 a.m. in a
Houston hospital after an illness of one year. He was born in Fulton County
Arkansas, September 1, 1880, a son of D. W. and Mary Jane Fielder Gurley.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements in charge of Waldo Funeral Home were incomplete
at noon Thursday. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife; four sons, Robert Gurley and Russell Gurley
both of Sherman; Lloyd Gurley of Wichita Falls; and Chester Gurley of Los
Angeles, California; two daughters, Mrs. Johnny Holmes of Sherman and Mrs.
W. H. Hammett of Orange; two sisters, Mrs. Herb Cox of Howe and Mrs. Ethel
Wax of Gillham, Arkansas; nine grandsons and four great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL SET SATURDAY FOR JAMES GURLEY
Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m.in Waldo Funeral
Chapel for James S. Gurley, 215 E. Wilson. He died Thursday at 2 a.m. in
a Houston hospital after an illness of one year.
Rev.
Lloyd Ledbetter, pastor of the Central Baptist Church officiated.
Pallbearers were Ralph Bruton, J. C. Atkinson, Everett Southerland,
John Williams, Melvin Jobe and Kyle McGill. Burial will be in West Hill
Cemetery.

MRS. ARVEL TUCKER
Mrs. Arvel Tucker 44, 812 North Willow Street, died at a local hospital
Sunday at 5 p.m. after an illness of five months.
Mrs. Tucker was a native of Red River, Colorado where she was born
December 25, 1903. She was married to Arvel Tucker at Sherman in November
1941. For the past 24 years she was a telephone operator, retiring in 1941.
She was a past secretary of the auxiliary of the veterans of Foreign Wars
and was a member of North Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include her father, J. S. Gurley of Sherman; mother, Mrs.
J. J. Garrison, Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Hammett, Orange; and Mrs.
J. W. Holmes of Sherman; five brothers, Glenn, Russell and Robert Gurley
all of Sherman; Chester Gurley of San Antonio; and L. W. Gurley of Wichita
Falls.The funeral was held Tuesday with services at the North
Park Baptist Church. The Rev. Claude Johnson will officiate, assisted by
Rev. Homer Thompson. Burial was at West Hill cemetery under direction
of Waldo Funeral Home.
