SHERMAN NEWS NOTES
W.J.S. Russell, who was called to Chattanooga, Oklahoma a few days ago on account of the serious illness of a brother, J.L. Russell, retured to the city yesterday afternoon, having been called from the bedside of his brother by the death of an infant child.  The child was buried this morning, the body having been held until the return of the father.

W.J.S. Russell Passes Away at Hagerman Home
Former McKinney Resident Was Well Known Here

W.J.S. Russell, 73, and former McKinney resident for many years, died at his home at Hagerman, Grayson County, at 8:40 o'clock Wednesday night after an illness extending over a period of several months.
Funeral services for the deceased were held this Thursday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock at the Walnut Street Church of Christ, in Sherman, with burial following in the cemetery in that city.  The deceased had long been a member of the Church of Christ.
W.J.S. Russell was a native of Scott County, Arkansas, coming to Texas when a young man and settling at Merit in east Collin county.  He soon moved to McKinney where he resided for many years, leaving here some 30 years ago.  However, he frequently came back on visits to relatives and friends here.
The deceased was interested in real estate during his residence in this city and, together with his brother, C.H. Russell, surveyed the eastern portion of McKinney known then and still often referred to as Russelville.

HIS SURVIVORS
The deceased was twice married.  His first marriage was to Miss Esther Strode, sister to W.N. (Nelson) Strode, who resides just south of McKinney.  She passed away a few years after after their marriage.  To this union one child was born, Mrs. Ernest Brown, of Patricia, Texas, who survives.
His second marriage was to Miss Julia Frances Elmore, who survives and to this union 8 children were born, 6 of whom survive as follows: Miss Ivy Russell, teacher in the Sherman public school; M.F. Russell of Hagerman; Mrs. Bruce Womack of Silverton, Texas; Mrs. Claude Anderson of Denison; Miss Ruth Russell, a teacher near Denison; and Paul Russell at home.  Two children are deceased - Beecher and Clifton Russell.  He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
R.F. Russell, a brother, is the only surviving member of his immediate family, residing in Cisco, Texas.  Brothers and sisters preceding him in death are C.H. Russell; E.D. Russell, who passed away in October in Farmersville; G.M. Russell and Mrs. Margaret Blankenship.
Mrs. Lee Lowery, who resides on Wolfe Street, this city, is a sister of the wife of the deceased.
The news of his death is received here and over the county with much regret, not only among relatives, but also among a host friends who always looked forward to his occasional visits back home.



W.J.S. Russell, 72, prominent landowner of the Hagerman community, died at his residence about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Walnut Street Church of Christ with Burton Coffman, pastor, officiating.  Burial followed at West Hill cemetery, directed by Talley Funeral Home.
Mr. Russell had lived in Grayson County for the last 30 years, coming here from McKinney.  He had lived in Sherman until about 15 years ago when he moved to Flowing Wells, where he had been engaged in cattle trading and the real estate business.  He was an extensive land owner in Grayson county.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Frances Russell; 2 sons, Paul and M.F. Russell of Hagerman; 5 daughters, Miss Ivy Russell of Sherman; Mrs. Claude Anderson and Miss Ruth Russell of Denison; Mrs. W.E. Brown of of Lamesa; and Mrs. Bruce Womack of Silverton, Texas;  There are also surviving 17 grandchildren [sic] and one brother, R.F. Russell, of Cisco.
Pallbearers were Luther Ladd, R.S. Sumner, George Lackey, D.A. McCall, V.R. Henderson, and R.G. Carter.
