January 5, 1932 pg. 7 SHERMAN PIONEER WOMAN SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK Special to the New Sherman, Texas, January 4 - Mrs. Mattie Cunningham Hard wick, wife of the late George H. Hardwicke and resident of Sherman for 59 years, died Monday at her home here. Mrs. Hardwicke had registered high blood pressure for the last 3 years and had had several light heart attacks, but became seriously ill only a week ago. Funeral services will be held from the home, 710 West Washington Street, Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Conway T. Wharton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs. Hardwicke had long been a member, officiated, with Dr. J.A. Ellis, First Baptist pastor, assisting. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery beside her late h us band. Mrs. Hardwicke is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters: C.G. Hardwicke, secretary of the Hardwicke-Etter Company of Sherman, which was founded by his father; Robert Hardwicke, Ft. Worth attorney and special counsel for the Standard Oil Company of Indiana; Mrs. J.C. (Annette) Stinson and Miss Mildred Hardwicke, with whom she resided in Sherman; and Mrs. Lewis J. Sherill, Louisville, Kentucky. All were with their mother when she died except Robert Hardwicke, who was enroute to Sherman. Hardwicke, president of the Hardwicke-Etter Co. of Sherman, died at his home in that city Saturday morning and was buried yesterday afternoon at 4:30. Mr. Hardwicke was one of the most successful and prominent Sherman business men. He had been engaged in the hardware business and the wholesale mill supply business in that city for 50 years. He was very well known to many citizens of Bonham where he often visited in years gone by. He was one of the best and most useful citizens in his home town and was known for his good works in civic life and religious circles. Hardwicke 1894 - 1973 Dallas Morning News December 21, 1973 Miss Hardwicke, Sherman, Texas Special to the News Funeral services for Miss Mildred Hardwicke, 79, a native of Sherman who moved to Dallas two years ago, will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, in the First Presbyterian Church of Sherman. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. Miss Hardwicke died Wednesday in Dallas. She was graduated from Hollins College in Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin. During World War II, she worked in the offices of the Hardwicke - Etter Co. here. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sherman.
