Services for Verga Mae "Susie" McKown, 78, were held Tuesday in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.  She died Sunday in a Sherman nursing home.
Mrs. McKown was born in Van Alstyne, a daughter of Thomas J. and Effie Phillips Umphress, and married Sam McKown on Sept. 4, 1940, in Sulphur, OK.  She was former owner and operator of Smith Dry Cleaning and Holiday Dry Cleaning and a member of the church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Sammye Kay Perez of Woodville; brothers, Bob Umphress of Pottsboro, Weldon Umphress of Mesquite and Jess Umphress of Glenrose; and two grandchildren.
