Prof. Powell was 70 years of age and came to Sherman in 1888 with the late Mrs. Kidd-Key, who founded Kidd-Key College. It was announced this morning that the funeral services would be held from the Travis Street Methodist Church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, the pastor Rev. J.F. Pierce, and Dr. J.O. Leath of Kidd-Key College conducting the services. The active pall bearers will be chosen from among Prof. Powell's associates at Kidd-Key College, with the addition of John Pittman and Will Gough. The honorary pall bearers will be selected from the official board of the Travis Street Methodist Church, of which the deceased had been a member for the past thirty years. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. Music for the services will be furnished by the young ladies of Kidd-Key College. Classes will be suspended at the college tomorrow. Surviving Prof. Powell are his wife, Mrs. Elvira Powell, also coneected with Kidd-Key College, and two sons, Francis W. Powell of Sherman and now with the Third Army of Occupation on the Rhine, and another son, E. Burney Powell of Brookline, Massachusetts. Francis Powell was notified several days ago by cable of his father's critical condition. He is a member of the ambulance company of which the late Dr. Ellis of Denison was Captain and has been in France for some time. Prof. Powell repeatedly expressed the desire to live long enough to see his son overseas return. Prof. Powell was a native of Mississippi, and as stated above, came to Texas with Mrs. Kidd-Key and assisted in the founding of Kidd-Key College. He was loyal and faithful to the institution and was actively engaged in teaching his classes until about three months ago when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. Prof. Powell was known and loved not only in the immediate community, but all over Texas and the Southwest. It is estimated that 10,000 young ladies have received instruction from him and are therefore personally acquainted with him. He was an educator of the first rank and a pioneer in his profession in North Texas. News of his death will be received with genuine sorrow wherever Prof. Powell was known. Not only Kidd-Key, but the entire State, has suffered a loss in the death of Prof. Powell.
