Joe Marvin Porter 13 February 1926 - 28 February 2005 US Navy WWII Sherman Democrat The Rev. Tom Price of the First United Methodist Church will officiate, with arrangements by Waldo Funeral Home. Mrs. Porter was born in Howe, a daughter of Thomas J. and Vina Davis Spencer. A lifelong Grayson County resident, she had lived in Sherman for most of her life and moved to Whitesboro a few months ago. She was a Methodist. Surviving are her sons, Joe Porter Jr. of Whitesboro and Richard Porter of Dallas; and two grandchildren. The family will be at the Joe Porter, Jr. residence on Route 2, Whitesboro. Sherman Democrat JOE MARVIN PORTER, SR Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Waldo Funeral Chapel for Joe Marvin Porter, Sr., 77, of Route 2, Whitesboro, former Harwicke-Etter Co. employee who died Sunday, 4 April 1976 at a Sherman hospital.Services were conducted by Rev. Charles Glass of the First Pentecostal Church of God and Dr. Tom Brandon of First Baptist Church. Burial was at West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Porter was born in Grayson County, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pleas M. Porter, and was married to the former Avannah Spencer on August 15, 1922 in Sherman. His father once served as Grayson County Sheriff. He was a tool room supervisor at Hardwicke-Etter for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1964. He attended public school in Hollis, Oklahoma, and Southmayd and Ivy Business College. He served with the Army's 36th Division during World War I. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife of Sherman; sons, Joe Porter, Jr.of route 2 Whitesboro and Richard A. Porter of Austin; brothers, George W. Porter of Sherman and Sid Porter of South Gate, California; sisters, Mrs. Lalla Brackett and Mrs. Loyce Henningsen, both of Gainesville; and two grand-children.
