West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Elijah L. "Lige" Williams 1858 - 1926 Dallas Morning News November 6, 1926 pg. 19 E. L. Williams, Sherman Hotel Proprietor, Dies. Sherman, Texas, November 5 - E.L. Williams, 68 years old, one of the pioneer citizens of Sherman, died suddenly here Friday morning at 6:30 o'clock at the Williams Hotel, which he was operating. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Williams, and the following children: Mrs. R.H. Benson, Sherman; Mrs. C.B. Brown and H.B. Williams, San Francisco, California. He is also survived by 4 sisters and 1 brother - Mrs. Mary Dannelly, Arie, Kansas; Mrs. Bell Smith, Los Angels, California; Mrs Nannie Kinnaman, Douglas, Kansas; Mrs. Adda Conrad, Dallas; Frank Williams, Elsimore, Kansas, and 5 grandchildren. Mr. Williams was born in Missouri April 2, 1858, and came from that state to Texas in early life. He had been living in Sherman since he was 16 years old. For many years he was in the dairy and farm business with C.C. Kerr. He established the Williams Hotel on (221) West Houston Street in 1914 and had been operating it since. For the last week he had been ill and under the care of a physician, but his condition was not thought to be serious. He rested well on Thursday, and was apparently no worse Friday morning. Sitting in a chiar, his head dropped over and he died in a few seconds.
