POSTMASTER NALL TAKEN BY DEATH Carl R. Nall, 68, Sherman postmaster since 1933 and

Sherman business and civic life since early youth, past president of the
Club and of the Texas Postmasters Association, Mr. Nall once said "From
the very beginning Sherman has been more than kind to me. No man ever becomes
more than his fellows make him. Whatever measure of attainment life may
bring me is because I have met and known and have been the fortunate possessor
of the friendship of Sherman citizens." Mr. Nall was born in West, Mississippi
on May 4, 1879, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Nall. His parents died when
he was a small child and he was brought up in the home of his grandparents
and later in that of an uncle, Judge W.D. Campbell of Greenwood, Arkansas. When
he was 14 years old, Mr. Nall came to Sherman to make his home with a brother,
the late Dr. R.B. Nall.
WORKED IN DRUG STORE While the young Mississippian
attended Sherman public schools, he worked at Bitting Drug Co., for two
years and later with Lankford and Batsell druggists. He was in the employ
of this firm when he passed the Texas Pharmaceutical Board Examination
in 1900. In 1907, Mr. Nall became a member of the firm and the name was
changed to Lankford, Keith and Nall. Three years later he sold his interest
to the late P.C. Keith and established the Nall Drug Co. He operated this
store until 1933, when on his appointment as postmaster, he sold the business
to William Keith, son of his former partner. On Jan. 1, 1907 Mr. Nall married
Miss Myrtle Lollar of Whitesboro. She and their two sons, Carl Nall, Jr.,
and Rayburn Nall survive him. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. O.H. Hargett
of Amarillo and a granddaughter Neysa Jeane Nall. APPOINTED BY FARLEY Mr. Nall succeeded E.N. Mulkey as Sherman Postmaster, receiving
his appointment from Postmaster General James A. Farley. He had been active
in the state and national associations of postmasters and in 1940 was elected
president of the state body, serving two years. A member of the First Presbyterian
Church, Mr. Nall had held several church offices and committee chairmanships.
He was a charter member of Sherman Rotary Club, a former director of Sherman
Chamber of Commerce and the Merchants and Planters National Bank. Pall
bearers were Kyle Stone, John Beam, Costa Morrow, Harry Hudgins, Judge
R.C. Slagle Jr., Frank Trau, all of Sherman; Tom Ryburn of Bonham and Arthur
McElreath of Fort Worth. All Sherman drug stores were closed from 3:30 p.m.
to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday in respect to Mr. Nall who was once a member of the
