December 12, 1977 AC Professor, Author, Missionary Dies At 75 Services for Dr. George L. Landolt, a Sherman resident for more than 50 years and a pillar in the development of Austin College, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Waldo Funeral Chapel. The 75-year-old retired college administrator and professor died Sunday at a Sherman hospital. He had entertained a group of Sunday school children the previous evening when he dressed as Santa Claus. Services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Wirt Skinner of the Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church with burial at West Hill Cemetery. Dr. Landolt, who lived at 822 N. Cleveland, was born at Somerville, son of the late William and Lonie Landolt and was married to the former Doris Eagleton. He received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Austin College and the Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in chemistry. Honored four times by Austin College and listed in Who's Who Among Scientists, he was an elder in the Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church and was elected commissioner three times to the General Assembly of the Church. The World Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church U.S. sent him to Japan on a special assignment in 1952 to assist in establishing Shakoku Christian College. He was called by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia to be Dean of the Science College of the newly established Tunghai Christian University in Taiwan from 1957 to 1960. He was sent by the World Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church U.S. as an educational missionary to Chung Hsing University, National China from 1963 to 1966. In addition to these assignments on leaves of absence from Austin College, where he was head of the Chemistry Department until 1957, he was business manager, treasurer and vice president from 1933 to 1945. He was author of a book "Search For The Summit" about 12 decades of Austin College history which was published in 1970. Survivors are his wife; son, Dr. Robert R. Landolt of W. Lafayette, Indiana; daughter, Mrs. Kennan C. Herrick of Oakland, California; brothers, Dr. Robert Landolt of S. Charleston, West Virginia, John Landolt of Somerville, Casper B. Landolt of Webster; sisters, Mrs. Tom Goodrum and Mrs. C. A. Drake, both of Houston; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be M.E.Talley, Arthur Dietrich, Dr. Clyde L. Hall, Dr. Howard McCarley, Ellis Lockhart, Raymond Ridge, Dr. Jim Ware, J. B. Thomas and M. O. Belden. The family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to Austin College or to Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
