February 20, 1889 Sherman, Tex., Feb. 19. -- Porter M. Davis, one of the oldest pioneers of north Texas and who located a headright under M. B. Lamar, president of the Republic of Texas, when Grayson was a part of Fannin county, died at his residence to-day at 1:27 p.m. He was a man beloved by all and leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. Dallas Morning News February 23, 1889 Sherman, Tex., Feb 21. -- Porter M. Davis, for fifty years a resident of Sherman and Grayson county, was interred in the west side cemetery this afternoon.
