Frank O. Harding 1894 - 1918 Sherman Daily Democrat Friday, July 16, 1920 pg. 5 FUNERAL SERVICES FOR SOLDIER WHO DIED IN FRANCE HELD SUNDAY Funeral services for Frank O. Harding, Grayson County soldier who died at Brest, France on October 10, 1918 and whose body is expected to arrive here Saturday afternoon, will be held from the parlors of the Stewart M. Scott Undertaking Company on the west side of the square at 4 o'clock, instead of at Travis Street Methodist Church, as announced Friday. Dr. Davis Spangler, post commander of Charles R. Simmons Post of the American Legion requests all American Legion members and ex-service men generally to meet on the west side of the square at 3:30 o'clock, in uniform with the exception of blouses, to attend the services. Full military honors will be accorded the deceased soldier when his remains are finally laid to rest in the soil of his native land Sunday. The local chapter of the Red Cross will furnish the flag with which the coffin will be draped. Private Harding was born September 27, 1894, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Harding, residing between Howe and Dorchester. He was reared on his father's farm, where he was living at the time he heard the call of his country and enlisted at Sherman, just 2 years ago this week on July 15, 1918. He trained at Camp McArthur at Waco and was sent overseas as a member of the 7th Replacement Battalion. His was not the glory of death on the field of battle, but the honor, nevertheless, of death for his country. He succumbed to an attack of influenza in the Base Hospital at Brest, France, soon after disembarking there. The following have been selected as pall bearers for services Sunday: Benton Davis, Top Mackey and Hill, former members of the Navy; Lawrence Harmon, Ernest Haning and Ed Harris, former Army service men.
