Myrtle M. Brooks 29 October 1908 - 21 December 2005 Fred A. Brooks 1 February 1901 - 10 November 1980 Herald Democrat Friday, December 23, 2005 Sherman - Myrtle mae Brooks, 97, of Sherman, Texas passed away Wednesday, december 21, 2005. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, December 24, 2005 at the Woods Street Church of Christ. Bill Wiley of Dublin, Texas officiated. Graveside services followed at West Hill Cemetery. Myrtle was born in a farm house at Holt's Crossing between Sherman and Howe on October 29, 1908 to Tas Gee and Vera McCord Gee. She lived her entirelife in Grayson County, attending the Helvy and Howe schools. Mrs. Brooks worked at various retail establishments in Sherman and managed the Jefferson, Bryant and Washington school cafeterias during World War II. She married Fred A. Brooks on November 2, 1929 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Myrtle became a member of the Church of Christ in 1921 and was a charter member of the Woods Street Church of Christ on its founding in 1955. Her church was very important to her and she lived her life for others. She was an integral part of her congregation and was admired by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Fred A. Brooks, Jr. and wife, Betty Dodson Brooks, of Houston; sister-in-law, Lena Gee of Kingsland, Texas; niece, Lynell La Rue and husband, Darrell La Rue, of Dumas, Texas; nephews, David Ridge of Tucson, Arizona; and Steven La Rue of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Mollie Richardson; and brother, Homer Gee. Pallbearers were Jim Baker, Jack Pierce, Welby Pleasant, Bill Hurley, H.B. Haynes and T.H. Estes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woods Street Church of Christ, 2100 N. Woods Street, Sherman, Texas, 75092.
