West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Grover L. Allmon 1890 - 1920 Mittie L. Allmon 1892 - 1949 Sherman Daily Democrat Saturday, November 6, 1920 pg.3 FUNERAL SERVICES FOR GROVER ALLMON Funeral services for Grover Allmon, well known young carpenter of Sherman who was killed while about his duties at the new 2nd Ward school, on North Woods street by being struck by a falling elevator, were held from the family home at Laurel Street and Holley avenue, Sturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Services at the home were followed by brief services at West Hill cemetery, where interment was made. Services at the home and at the grave were largely attended and many beautiful floral offerings gave expression to the wide esteem in which Mr. Allmon was held by a large number of friends. A number of out-of-town relatives were present at the services. The accident which resulted in Mr. Allmon's death was caused by the elevator cable being slipped from its pulley. The two elevator platforms, which traveled in opposite directions in a double shaft, were at a standstill, the elevator machinery having gotten out of commission. Mr. Allmon had climbed a good distance up one of the shafts and was working underneath one of the cars, which was loaded with about 500 pounds of building material of different kind. He was knocked from his position by the heavily loaded car, and fell beneath it to his death. Mr. Allmon's tragic death has caused universal regret throughout Sherman and other places where he was known. He was respected and esteemed by all who knew him for many sterling qualities of manhood. To the members of the bereaved family the sincerest sympathy is extended to all.
