Monday, March 12, 1917 pg. 4 Pioneer Citizen of Sherman Dropped Dead Saturday Afternoon Wilson Bowlby, a pioneer citizen of Sherman, died suddenly at his home in this city about 5:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon and was buried in West Hill Cemetery Sunday afternoon, following funeral services conducted from the late residence, No. 620 N. Branch street, in charge of Dr. T.A. Wharton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bowlby's sudden death was a great shock to friends and members of the family, as he had apparently been in good health and had experienced no illness. He was advanced in years, however, being 70 years of age. He had made this city his home for the past 40 years and had been a resident of Texas for almost his entire life time, coming to this state from his native New Jersey while yet a boy. He was an upright, loyal citizen, a faithful member of the Presbyterian church and his death will be sincerely regretted by a large number of friends. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Mary Bowlby; a son, W.H. Bowlby of Dalhart; and two daughters, Mrs. C.K. Ludlow and Mrs. A.C. Durham, both of Sherman. Haynes & Sporer, local undertakers, had charge of the funeral arrangements. Mr. Bowlby had been at work Saturday and returned home about 6 o'clock. Leaving his team at the lot gate, Mr. Bowlby went into the barn and out on another side, and dropped dead just inside the lot gate, opening into the back yard.
