West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Charles Raymond Woodrow 9 November 1922 - 26 July 2007 Lila Mae Woodrow 29 January 1929 - wed 26 August 1948 Marietta Monitor Friday, August 3, 2007 Services for Charles Raymond Woodrow, 84, of Sherman, Texas, were held Monday morning, July 30, 2007 at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church, Sherman with Rev. Lander Bethel officiating. Interment was in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman. Born November 9, 1922 in Oklahoma City, son of Harry and Emma Woodrow, he died Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center, Sherman, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He attended grade school in Moore and graduated from Jones High School, in 1940. Rev. Woodrow attended Central College, McPherson, Kansas, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Greenville College, Greenville, ILlinois, and later received a Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky. He also earned a Master of Mathematics Education degree from Oklahoma State University. Rev. Woodrow taught in the public schools of Oklahoma for 4 years and later pastored churches in Kentucky and Oklahoma before moving to Sherman in 1959. At that time he joined the Mathematics Department at Austin College where he taught until his retiremen in 1988. For 17 years during this period, he also served as pastor of the Mahota Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marietta. In addition to his mathematics and pastoral pursuits, he had other interests which brought joy to his life. Rev. Woodrow was a charter memeber of the local Texoma Babreshop Chorus. He became a certified secretary and contest administrator and served in the Barbershop Harmony Society's judging program for 20 years. Rev. Woodrow enjoyed traveling and led many Austin College student groups on tours of Europe to study art and sciene. He was an avid sports fan and announced at Austin College swim meets for years. In 1981 he was awarded the Austin College Spirit Award and in 1994 he was inducted into his own college alma mater's Athletic Hall of Fame. During summers he enjoyed trout fishing in the mountains of Colorado. Rev. Woodrow was a devoted father who faithfully provided guidance and support to each of his children. He was a proud grandfather and although his grandchildren lived far away, he encouraged their interests and attended their events as often as possible. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lila; 3 [sic] children and their spouses: Charlotte and David Burke of Jackson, Tennessee; Charles and Julie Woodrow of Nampula, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and a loving extended family. He was proceeded in death by 2 brothers, Harry Earl Woodrow and Wilson Riddell Woodrow; and a sister, Doris Elizabeth Woodrow. Memorials may be made to Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church.
