Funeral services for Charles Rex Gibson were held Friday morning, September 30, 2022 at the Friendship United Methodist Church.  Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery with Marine funeral honors.  Mr. Gibson, 87, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 in Sherman.
Coach Charles Rex Gibson was born in Clinton, Oklahoma in 1935 but moved to Texas before the age of one. He grew up on a tenement farm in Hardeman County and graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1953.  He attended Howard County Junior College in Big Spring from 1953 to 1955 and attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma from 1955 to 1957.
In 1953 Rex joined the Marine Reserves.  After graduating college in 1957 he spent 8 months in basic school at Quantico and then spent 3 years active duty in Okinawa and Camp Pendleton.  After ending active duty in 1960, he continued to be active in the Marine Reserves until 1974.
Rex started his teaching and coaching career in Sherman in 1960.  He taught World History, Texas History, Health and Physical Education in addition to many years of coaching. Rex retired after working 30 years in the classroom. After retirement, Rex continued to serve students by driving a school bus for many extracurricular activities.  Rex continued working on projects throughout his retirement years.  He enjoyed playing 42 and watching any Bearcat games he could make it to. He considered himself a patriotic county hick.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Arvilla Schwag Gibson; wife, Mary Louise Satoris Gibson.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindi Gibson of Wills Point, Texas; son, David Gibson of Arlington, Texas; brother, Hugh Gibson and wife, Sondra, of Springtown, Texas; 2 sisters-in-law, Nena Mathiews of McAlister, Oklahoma and Virginia Pingleton and husband, James, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Neno Satoris and wife, Jeannie of Gowen, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many close friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, Home Hospice of Grayson County or the American Cancer Society.
