Sherman - Alice Humphries Hall passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at her home in Sherman.  Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon, October 29, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Sherman, with Rev. Chris Dowd officiating.

Alice was born August 8, 1931, in Newport, Arkansas.  She moved to Little Rock at the age of 3 when her father, Wm. L. Humphries, became Commissioner of Education of the State of Arkansas.  She attended public schools in Little Rock, graduating from Central High School in 1949.   She attended Hollins College in Virginia for one year, before transferring to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.  In Janaury 1952 she had a blind date with Jack Hall, and they immediately fell in love.  They w ere married July 22, 1952 in Little Rock and moved to Hampton, Virginia,  while Jack finished his U.S. Army service during the Korean  War.  After Jack's discharge they moved to Austin to complete college; then moved to Sherman in 1955.
After 8 years at Hall Furniture Co., Jack started an insurance agency where he remained until he retired in 2002.  Alice was an immense public relations asset for Jack's business and active in many local organizations, including volunteer work at the Sherman Service League, Camp Fire Girls and the United Way.  She was a member of many clubs, some for more than 50 years, including Current Review, Tuesday Study Club, Ph Beta Phi Alumni Club, Friday Bridge Club, and the Hors D'Oeuvres Club.
Alice had many friends, and all who knew her loved her.  She was always considerated of the feelings of others, and r arely had a bad work to say about anyone. Most of all, she was joyful to be with and enjoyed life to the fullest.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.   She and Jack made dozens of trips over the United States and overseas, and always traveled on their own to better learn how others lived.   Inevitably, they were always happy to get back to Sherman, no matter how successful the trip had been.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years; and their 3 daughters: Susan Stancil and husband, Jim, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and their 2 children, Lisa Stancil and Sharon Florquist and husband, Lane; daughter, Lisa Hall of New Orleans; and daughter, Carol Hare and husband, Robert, of Aledo, and their 2 children:  Jeanice H are and Jack Hare.
Also surviving is Alice's brother, Dr. William L. Humphires, Jr. and wife, Sarah Kay, of Little Rock, Arkansas,  and their children and grandchildren.   She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the Hall family suggests memorial donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County or the donor's favorite charity.
