Marcia A. Williams 1923 - 2017 Marcia Williams, 94, of Texarkana, Texas, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 in a local retirement facility. Ms. Williams was born April 2, 1923 in Texarkana, Texas and was a lifetime resident of Texarkana. She was retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad. She began her career with Texas Pacific Railroad that was later bought out by the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Marcia was a trailblazer, being the first woman hired by Texas Pacific Railroad, and set the example for other women to follow. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Arkansas, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was an accomplished violinist. She was also a member of the Shreveport Opera and the Texarkana Historical Museum. Ms. Williams traveled the world over visiting several exotic places, just to mention a few; she floated the Nile River and was amazed by the beauty of the Taj Mahal in India. She often spent her winter months in Florida enjoying the ocean breeze. She was a very independent lady and a committed friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Robert Williams and Anna Kennedy Williams. She is survived by her devoted friends: Dollie Riggs of Wake Village, Texas; Othal Turner of Texarkana, Texas; her traveling buddy, Ruth Gill of Texarkana, Texas; her adopted grandchildren: Kerry Riggs, Kourtney Goodwin, Gayla Turner, Buster Turner, Robert "Bo" Turner and Shane Turner; and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rob Holifield officiating. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.
