Johnnie Ray West was born in Marque, Texas on December 21, 1948, son of Johnnie West and Mrs. Jewellan Randle of Buffalo, Texas.  West was affectionately known to his family and friends as the first born of 4 children. He received his education in Buffalo, Texas.  West was self-employed and the owner of West Construction Company for over 40 years, which he later retired from and became a crossing guard for Cedar Hill Independent School District for 2 years.
In the year of 1982, West met the love of his life, Linda Joy West, and they were married; to this union one child was born, Jeron Ray West.  Altogether West had 6 children and 2 step-daughters.
West was a proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death, as well as his son, Johnnie Ray West, Jr.  Memories of Johnnie will forever be cherished by his children: Jeron West of Dallas, Texas; and Jarius West of Arkansas; Veronica Ward of Dallas, Texas; Natasha Rule of Arlington,  LaSonya West Powell and husband, Darwin, of San Antonio; LaKeedra Autry and husband, Adrian, of Dallas; and Monica Peavy and husband, Greg, of Houston.  He also leaves to cherish his memory: siblings, Stella Shelton and husband, John, of Sherman, Texas; Wanda Hayes and husband, Don, of Buffalo; and Robert West; as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; nephews and extended family.
