August 3, 2012 Services for Donald Sloan Sr., 52, longtime Grayson County resident, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Aaron Crawford officiating. Interment followed at West Hill Cemetery. Donald Sloan Sr. was born October 18, 1959 in Ft. Worth to Roy R. Sloan and Glenna Jane Burns Sloan and passed from this life unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 while working at the Ft. Hood Military Base in Killeen. Donald grew up in the Sherman and Pottsboro area. He married Becky Smith on April 14, 1978 at the Georgetown community near Pottsboro. Donald worked as a plumber most of his life and was employed by Dwayne's Plumbing in Sherman for several years. He worked for Clayton Mobile Homes in Belton, and his most recent employment being with McCarty Corporation in Dallas. Donald loved working, and enjoyed watching western and military movies as well as race car driving and golf on the television. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Sloan; and brother-in-law, Dwayne Griffith. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Becky of the home; stepson, T.J. Jones of Texas; sons, Tommy Jones and wife, Cheryl, of Denison; Steven Sloan and wife, Sharice Thompson, of Sherman; and Donald Sloan Jr. of Ft. Bliss; sisters, Emily Wilder of Naples; Teresa Griffith of Denison; and Janet Riggs and husband, Tim, of Mt. Vernon; brother, Michael Sloan, of Denison; grandchildren, Zachary Jones, Jeremy Jones, Peyton Sloan, Kylie Sloan, Dylan Sloan, Alexis Sloan, and Jennifer Jones; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas.
