West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Graveside services Monday at West Hill Cemetery
Graveside services for Dorothy E. "Dot" Calhoun Fowler, 90, of Sherman were held Monday morning, September 8, 2014 in West Hill Cemetery with Dr. Mike Lawson of the First Baptist Church officiating. Dorothy was born January 18, 1924 in Sherman, Texas, daughter of William Thomas and Edna Pearl Crumby Calhoun. Dorothy attended Sherman public schools, graduating in 1941. Dorothy married James Henry Fowler, who preceded her in death. Dorothy went to work for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas in 1965. She worked as a telephone operator at the Lemmon Avenue office until the Sherman facility opened in 1968. At that time, she transferred to Sherman and was the first beautiful face one saw upon entering the lobby. Initially she was the receptionist/operator in the main lobby. As the plant grew and things changed, she moved to an office upstairs and assumed a role in the Communications Department, where she processed work orders for issues and changes to the many electronic needs throughout the plant. Dorothy worked at Texas Instruments until 1998, when she retired. Dorothy loved working in her yard and flower beds. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels until it became too difficult for her to walk at length. She was always the first one there to sit with a friend or loved one who was ill at home or in the hospital. She lived in Sherman most of her life, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years. She was active in the Mary Martha Sunday School class as long as her health allowed, where she had many dear friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, both of Sherman; her only brother, Billy Ray Calhoun, also of Sherman; sisters, Reba Cole of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Nina Pearl "Tince" Blake, of Sweetwater, Texas Dorothy is survived by her children: sons, James Larry Fowler and wife, Cassandra, of Gun Barrel City, Texas; Gary Dwight Fowler of Upland, California; and Paul Mark Fowler and wife, Miki, of Gilmer, Texas; daughter, Nannette Fowler and husband, Donald, of Bells, Texas; 7 grandchildren: Scott Fowler of Lago Vista, Texas; Christy Sylvester and Jeni Fowler of Houston, Texas; Daniel Shawn Smith of Sherman, Texas; Aaron Kelley of Whitesboro, Texas; Blake Fowler of Dallas, Texas; Sarah Rubino of Orange County, California.
