West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Josephine Rubarts 30 October 1922 - 5 November 2008 B. Leon Rubarts 14 September 1921 - 23 November 2012 wed 4 October 1942 Deborah Sue Rubarts 25 January 1958 - 27 January 1958 Pottsboro - Josephine "Jo" Rubarts of Pottsboro, 86-year-old former Sherman resident and retired Johnson & Johnson employe, passed away Wednesday evening, November 5, 2008 at the Homestead of Denison. Services were held Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2008 at the Pottsboro Church of Christ. Gregg Knight and Bob Sholl, both of the church, officiated and burial followed at West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Jo was born October 30, 1922 in Alva, Oklahoma, daughter of William McKinley Nordyke and Jessie Jarred Nordyke. She attended Alva schools and graduated from Alva High School. She met Leon Rubarts, who was stationed at Sheppard AIr Force Base in Wichita Falls during World War II, and they married October 4, 1942 in Whitewright. She went to work for Johnson & Johnson in 1962 at the Dallas plant for a short time and transferred to the new Sherman J&J plant when it opened, retiring from the company after 23 years of service. Jo and Leon moved to Pottsboro in 1982 and enjoyed many times fishing together at Lake Texoma. They loved to travel and took many trips in their RV while their children were younger and especially after retirement. She loved the outdoors and in addition to fishing, she also enjoyed hunting with her husband. They were proud of the garden they grew and enjoyed canning much of the food items. Jo's family was very dear to her and she was a vert loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her family she enjoyed being with people and spending time with friends. She was a member of Woods Street Church of Christ in Sherman until moving to Pottsboro in 1982 when she and Leon joined the Pottsboro Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband; son, Kenneth Rubarts of Plano; daughter, Shirley Rubarts Holdmes and her husband, Jim, of Plano; 4 grandchildren, Jason Holmes, Shannon Cortez, Chris Rubarts and Carrie Rubarts; 2 great-grandchildren, Justin Holmes and Jacob Holmes. She is also survived by sisters, Addie Pleasant and Rose Fox, both of Peoria, Arizona; and Della Faye Houpy of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah Sue Rubarts in 1958; brothers, Bill Nordyke and Marvin Nordyke; and sister, Joan Kabasta. Pallbearers, all from Pottsboro Church of Christ were Mike DeFratus, Rodger Daniel, Gene Short, Delbert Clontz, Bob Sholl, and Gregg Knight. The Herald Democrat November 25, 2012 Funeral services for Bennie Leon Rubarts, 91, were held Tuesday afternoon, November 27, 2012 at the Pottsboro Church of Christ. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. He passed on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Renaissance in Sherman, Texas. Leon was born September 14, 1921, son of Bennie Washington Rubarts and Lillie Cain Rubarts. He graduated from Savoy High School. Leon married Josephine Nordyke on October 4, 1942 in Whitewright, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army AIr Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. After the war, Leon and Jo moved to Sherman where they raised their family; and he worked for the water department of Sherman. Leon retired in 1982 as the water superintendent of Sherman; and they moved to their home on Lake Texoma. They enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and traveling in their RV. He was a member of the Pottsboro Church of Christ. Leon is survived by his daughter, Shirley Holmes and husband, Jim, of Plano; son, Kenneth Rubarts of Plano; 4 grandchildren, Jason Holmes; Shannon Cortez and husband, Joseph; Chris Rubarts; 2 great-grandchildren Justin and Jacob Holmes. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Glen Rubarts and wife, Trula; and Bobby Rubarts; one sister, Glenda Crockett; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and daughter, Deborah Rubarts.
