 West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas  Denison Daily News Thursday, August 28, 1879 pg. 4 Dr. Jas. A. Long Dead After a long and painful illness Dr. James A. Long died at a quarter past 8 o'clock yesterday morning. Dr. Long was a man of many virtues and his friends were legion. He was born in Monroe County, Georgia October 26, 1827; being nearly 52 years of age. He was a graduate of Jefferson College of Medicine, Philadelphia, and devoted his whole talents to his profession. He came to Sherman in January 1877 and has resided here since that time. He was and Odd Fellow and a Mason in good standing, and a member of the Baptist church. He leaves a wife and 8 children to mourn his loss. There is much sympathy for the bereaved family.
