The Herald Democrat December 23, 2010 Sherman - Tom A. Saffa, 79, passed away at his home in Sherman on December 19, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born February 20, 1931, son of Tom A. Saffa, Sr. and Eva Shadid-Moses Saffa. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1949. Soon after that, he started Saffa Radio and Television Service and for the next 30 years served the local area. Tom was a master at creating furniture and his woodworking skills were famous. His pleasure came from making things better for others. In the 1970s he created a Citizens Band club that was involved in several charity events. As a Ham Radio operator, he recruited many to that endeavor and he talked with others around the world and carried on correspondence with these friends. The neighborhood children called him the "Mr. Turtle Man" and filled his pond with animals for years. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved little sister, Lillian; and his brother-in-law, Hannibal "Pancho" Shadid of Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Saffa, who for the last 30 years cared for him lovingly in sickness and in health; his sons, Richard Saffa and Tim Saffa and wife, Cissy, of Sherman; daughters, Tammy Bergquist; Terisa Leigh and Anna Saffa of Sherman; and Delsey North and husband, Chuck, of Keller; sisters, Dr. Mary Moses of Sherman and Joyce Shadid of Oklahoma City; 2 nephews, Dr. Tad Shadid and wife, Debbie, and Dr. Jeffrey Shadid and wife, Renae, of Edmond, Oklahoma; and one niece, Brenda Wilson and husband, Kendal, also of Edmond. Tom had 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Tom's pallbearers were Jeremy Kaminski and Jamie Robinson of Pottsboro; Ricky McGaughy of Sherman; Chuck North of Keller; and Tad and Jeffrey Shadid of Oklahoma City. Services were held Thursday afternoon, December 23, 2010, at the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Sherman. Rev. Neill Morgan officiated the services. He was laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery alongside his parents and his sister.
