 West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas  The Life For Mrs. Joyce Ann Wilson Jones Joyce Ann Wilson was born October 20, 1943 on East Magnolia Street in Sherman, Texas to the proud parentage of Mr. George Nathan Wilson and his wife, Mrs. Margarette Wilson. She was her Daddy's first born and apple of his eye. Naturally she was spoiled rotten by the time his second child was born one and one-half years later. Mr. George and his wife Margarette had 3 more children, all girls. Because Daddy George said so, his girls were a "gift from God." Joyce Ann was the leader, the boss, and the protector of her 3 younger sisters - Margaret, Gloria, and Betty. Many days walking home from school she would confront anyone, boy or girl, who had hurt or threatened either of them. By the time Joyce Ann was a teenager, everybody knew that it was a mistake to mess with either of her sisters. With less sisterly duty required, Joyce Ann became more active in extracurricular activities at Fred Douglas High School. She ran track and was a cheerleader. Joyce Ann was a proud Fred Douglas Panther and gladly supported school events and activities, whether athletic or academic. She loved to travel and cheer when the Panthers were in competition and was always ready to dance. Nobody could outlast or defeat her in a dance contest! After graduating from Fred Douglas in 1962, Joyce Ann joined the work force. One of several different jobs that she enjoyed was being a QC at Texas Instruments. She also enjoyed working in Housekeeping and the kitchen at WNJ Hospital because of the people she worked with. Joyce Ann married Alvin Jones, Jr. in her early twenties. She had 2 sons and 2 daughters: Angela Charise Jones, Alvin Jones, III, Tina Jones and Chadwick Jones. Several years later Joyce Ann married Oma Bryant, Jr. and had a third son which she lovingly named Kerwin Lamont. Even with 5 children of her own, Joyce Ann always had room in her heart and her home for any of her many nieces and nephews that needed a home away from home. Whether Joyce worked in a health care facility, school, or private home, she said helping people and getting paid for it made it all worthwhile. She could provide for her family while being entertained, enlightened, and learning everybody's business. Joyce Ann loved reading, cooking and cutting and styling hair. Cooking and eating together became such an integral part of Joyce Ann's family life that cooking big meals is a "given" for holidays, birthdays and most Sundays. Now the children and grandchildren keep the tradition going. Joyce was proud to be a 3rd generation member of the Friendly Church of God in Christ. She got saved at an early age and was active in the Sunshine Band and Purity Class. After re-dedicating her life to the Lord under the pastorage of the late Bishop James Edward Lee, she was faithful to the VPWW and church singing groups. After water baptism and re-dedication to the Lord under the pastorage of the late Bishop T.W. Johnson, Joyce Ann fell in love with Sunday School and church work in general. Joyce Ann was an active member of the Senior Choir, the Usher Board, Pastor's Aide, and Hospitality. She supported their efforts with her time, her talents, her resources and her presence. In other words, church life was a family affair. One of the greatest joys of Joyce Ann's life was being one of the 7 daughters of Mrs. Margarette Wilson. Joyce Ann was daughter #4 which put her right in the middle of it all. Somehow and someway the daughters became known as the "Sisters." Nobody knows when or why, but it is a fact. On Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:17 p.m., surrounded by her loving family, Joyce Ann's spirit took flight to Glory and left her body behind. She had loved, bossed, and protected to the best of her ability so her job was done. Joyce Ann was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Mrs. Josephine Thomas and Mrs. Willie B. Niblet; brother, Mr. Charles Chambers; and great-granddaughter, Ah'breonte Cyrus. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children: Angela Jones Hughley (Larry); Alvin James Jones III; and Chadwick Lanaris Jones (Pam); Tinishia Daneen Jones; and Kerwin Lamont Jones; 2 granddaughters that she raised, Khalila Jones Nickens (Benjamin) and Aaliyah Janae Jones; grandchildren: Keetyn Aleman; A.J. Jones; Queene' McIntosh; Amarion Jones; Dustin Benson; Krystina Moore; Curtis Ray Corbray; and Bobbie K.Corbray; Great-grandchildren: Shaquile Jones, Jor'Don Jones; Kiera Simone Jones; Isaiah Jones; Cyncere Pendleton; Ahjaleigh Smith and A'Laya Henderson; Sisters: Mrs. Dorothy Lee Patterson; Mrs. Margaret Johnson; Mrs. Gloria Wheatfall; and Mrs. Betty Bell (Leonard); purposely spoiled niece and great-nephew, Tammy Peters and R.J. Peters; devoted great-niece, Kristy Kyles; lifelong friend, Rev. Barbara Ford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, March 6, 2021 in the Greater Harvest North Church, Sherman with Bishop Charles Niblet officiating. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery.
