West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Melvin L. Proffitt 11 August 1910 - 27 March 1940 The Denison Press Wednesday, March 27, 1940 pg. 1 MELVIN PROFFITT DIED HERE WEDNESDAY MORN Melvin L. "Punk" Proffitt, 29, who had made his home at 1015 W. Hull street for the past 8 years, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday after an illness of 10 days. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday from Short-Murray chapel. Rev. J.F. Murrell officiated. Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman with Short-Murray directing. Mr. Proffitt was born August 11, 1910, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Proffitt. His schooling was received in Sherman. He was an employee of the Coca Cola bottling works. Surviving are his parents; 3 brothers, J.F. of Sherman; and H.H. and Woodson of Denison; sisters are Mrs. D.P. Newcomb of Miami, Oklahoma; and Misses Dottie, Betty and Wanda of Denison.
