West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas On September 8, 2019 beloved Mary Kathryn Lewis, loving wife, Mommy, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 91. She mischievously gained her nickname, Kat, when as a child she was given the duty to monitor the hot coconut pie in the window to keep the car from getting into it and failed. She ate the entire top of meringue and when her mother returned to collect the pie and saw the missing top, Kathryn said, "The Kat ate it." She was born the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Walkup and Lois McFarland Walkup on January 19, 1928 at her home in Ethel, Texas. Kat's ageless humor and caring for others made her a friend to many and surrogate grandmother to many more. Kat worshipped and volunteered at the Western Heights Church of Christ. Teaching Cradle Roll and toddlers about God was her passion, which she did until in her 70s. She lived a life full of caring for others and loved to laugh and enjoy life. She is survived by her kind and loving husband, Jay Lewis; daughter, Judy and husband, Jimmy Finney; son, Benny Harmon and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Heather Finney, Jarad FInney, and Matt Harmon; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, L.M. Harmon, Jr.; granddaughter, Michelle Harmon; and brothers, Frank Mac and Bob "Wimpy" Walkup. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2019 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. West Hill Cemetery Elaine Nall Bay ©2019 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
