 West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Daniel Wayne "Bud" Smith, 61, of Sherman passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Funeral services were held Monday morning, May 18, 2015 at Dannel Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Nancy Powers of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. Assisting with the service was Bro. Joshua Jackson of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Interment followed at West Hill Cemetry. Bud was born August 13, 1953 in Sherman, son of W.C. and Kathlee Walker Smith. He attended Sherman schools and subsequently graduated from North Texas State University. Before retirement, he worked for many years as a claims adjuster for Republic National Insurance Co. in Dallas. Bud was a kind and loving person. He was very close to his family and many life-long friends. Bud is survived by his mother, Kathlee Smith Merrill, of Sherman; son, William Chase Smith, of Dallas; sisters, Sandra Hunter and husband, Jim, of Round Rock, Texas; Debby Groves Carpenter and husband, Cecil, of Pottsboro; and Brenda Fox and husband, Paul, of Denison; nephews, Jason Groves and Scott Greene; nieces, Kim Hunter Sullivan, Jill Groves Sanchez, and Michelle Greene Moore; great nieces and nephews, Michael Groves, Stephen Groves, Alex Sanchez, Cyndi Eason, Madison Moore, Rachael Sullivan, and John Sullivan, III.
