West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Dr. John O. Scott 10 June 1837 - 8 March 1904 Lexington (KY) Leader 16th Year, Final Edition Wednesday, March 9, 1904 pg. 8 Dr. John Orlando Scott died at Sherman, Texas, Tuesday, after a severe surgical operation. He was a brother of Mrs. W.C.P. Breckinridge of this city, to whom the sad news of his death was sent. Dr. Scott was born on the farm of his father, Colonel Robert W. Scott, in Franklin County, Kentucky and was prepared for college by the great educator, B.B. Sayro. He then attended Centre College and after graduating, taught school in this county. Dr. Scott then studied medicine and upon the beginning of the Civil War enlisted as a surgeon in the Confederate Army. He served with Byrnes' Battery, Cobb's Battery, the 2nd Kentucky Regiment and was at the battle of Murfreesboro when General Hanson was fatally wounded. He went to Texas more than 25 years ago and resided there until his death. The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, March 13, 1904 pg. 1 Dr. John O. Scott died at St. Vincent's Sanitarium, in Sherman, last Tuesday morning after a surgical operation for cancer of the stomach. Dr. Scott was born in Kentucky in 1837. He was a surgeon and in the Confederate Army all through the war. For many years he had been historian of Mildred Lee Camp, U. C. V. He was a concientious, kind hearted man who will be greatly missed. A wife and 3 children survive him.
