West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Dallas Morning News 16 October 1926 page 20 Death Claims Bal Fielder Pioneer Sherman Business Man Dies Suddenly in Dallas. Special to the News - Sherman, Texas Oct. 15 - Bal Fielder, 68 years old, one of the pioneer business men of Sherman, died in Dallas Thursday afternoon at 6 o'clock. Death was sudden and came as the result of an attack of acute indigestion. Mr. Fielder left Sherman Wednesday to look after his Dallas real estate, and as he seemed to be in good health, the news of his death came as a distant shock to his friends here. He is survived by two brothers, former Mayor A.A. Fielder of this city and D.A. Fielder of Fort Worth, and three sisters. These are Mrs. Oscar McFarland, Mrs. Laura Halverson and Miss Mattie Fielder, all of Tyler, and Mrs. Genie White of Houston. He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Byrd Lovengood of Indianapolis, Indiana, wife of L.W. Lovengood from Indianapollis. They will arrive in Dallas Saturday morning. Mr. Fielder was born in Tennessee, but moved with his parents to Smith County, in East Texas, while a youth, his family being among the early settlers of that county. He came to Sherman in 1875, and associated with his brothers, opened a wholesale grocery store. This business was one fo the largest of its kind in North Texas for many years. Later, Mr. Fielder engaged in the coal business, having accumulated large realty holdings in Sherman, Dallas and Tyler. He retired from the coal business several years ago and since that time has given his entire time to looking after his property. He was a prominent member of the local lodge of Elks.
