Wendell Sparks was born in Pilot Grove, Texas, son of Jasper and Cora
Lee Davis Sparks. On May 2, 1942 he married Marjorie Nell
Blackwell in Durant, Oklahoma. He graduated from Tom Bean High
School, then continued his education at North Texas State Teachers
College in Denton, Texas. During World War II he served in
the Air Force and was stationed with the occupation forces in Japan and
later at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas. He retired from
the Frisco Railroad after 51 years service in 1980.
Marjorie Nell Sparks was born in Wolfe City, Texas, on November 19, 1921, daughter of Leon Blackwell and Elizabeth Mae Hames Blackwell. On May 2, 1942 she married Guy Wendell Sparks in Durant, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband; her only son, Robert Wendell Sparks, who was taken at the age of 21 in a tragic automobile accident on September 7, 1967.
