Herald Democrat September 23, 1996 Sherman - Dessie Rutherford, 93, of Sherman died Saturday, September 21, 1996 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, September 24, 1996 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Allen of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Burial was at West Hill Cemetery. Waldo Funera Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born September 22, 1902 in Greer, South Carolina, daughter of A.C. and Lillie May Pitman. She attended Sherman schools. In November 1921 she married Carie [sic] Rutherford in Sherman. She was employed at McClellan's dime store for 15 years before her retirement in 1967. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters, Doris Casebolt of Dallas; Shirley Jurecka and son-in-law, Billy Jurecka, of Austin; brothers, Jack Pitman of Denison; and Hayden Pitman of Sherman; sister-in-law, Hazel Rutherford of Sherman; 5 granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Loy Coffey, and nephews, Floyd Viers, Buddy Viers, Lynn Pitman, L.D. Allison, Jr., and Jack McColley.
