Homer L. Phelps, Sr. 4 May 1923 - 20 April 1986 A Time To Be Born Don Ray Phelps began his earthly journey in Whitewright, Texas on October 6, 1945, son of Homer L. and Belzater Spencer Phelps, Sr. A Time To Laugh Fred Douglas High School became Don's place to learn, laugh and grow for 12 years. He excelled on the football field as well as on the tennis court. Don was a proud graduate of the Class of 1964. A Time Of War Don served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. He was also a Vietnam Veteran earning the rank of Sergeant. A Time To Plant Don worked at Sherman Oscar Meyer plant until its closure with a total of 19 plus years. A Time To Dance Upon retirement Don enjoyed his passion of golf. It it was Tuesday or Thursday morning, he was teeing off with Al and Bill. A Time To Embrace When Don came into the knowledge of who Jesus truly was, he became a faithful member of the Senior Usher Board of Progressive Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas, where he had been a member since childhood. A Time To Love Don was very devoted to his family and loved ones. Don was someone who always tried to help whenever he could. A Time To Die "For He hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary, from heaven did the Lord behold the earth; To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death." Don Ray reached his heavenly destination on November 4, 2018 at his home in Sherman. A Time To Weep & A Time To Mourn "Peace I leave with you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
